Intermittent Fasting – Week 1

Wow, what a week! Never would I have thought I could do a week of fasting. I took some time to really think about what it was that I was doing and how my day-to-day life has changed, and when I really looked at it my morning routine hadn’t changed that much. Personally, I have never really been a HUGE fan of breakfast. In the mornings, I am usually going 100 MPH to get myself and my daughter ready for the day, so I typically skipped it. I have always been a fan of coffee though, so I usually would just get my lunch together with some snacks, grab my coffee and hit the road. I would, however, snack on things in the morning until lunch time hit. Skipping this was the biggest change to my morning routine. Looking back, it really wasn’t that hard though! Here is what a typical day for meals looked like for me:

7:00am – 1:00pm

Bulletproof coffee – I used these measurements but purchased the ingredients elsewhere

Baked paleo chicken nuggets – I used this recipe without the dressing

1 banana

2 clementines

1 gala apple

Finish bulletproof coffee

1:20pm – 6:00pm

7:00pm – 9:00pm

Vegan Asian style pasta – Dinner varied more than lunch would and was vegan due to the fact that my vegan wife typically makes our dinners (what would I do without her?!)

Sleep, rinse, repeat!

Now, as for any changes or anything that I have noticed… As of yet, there hasn’t been too much of a difference to be honest. Now to some, this may not come as a surprise. It’s only been one week so I wasn’t really expecting much measurable change this early. Change takes time. This revelation however did surprise me a bit. As I said earlier, my typical morning routine until lunch consisted of snacking until lunch. There have been days in the past where I was somewhat forced to “skip” that snacking, and my body certainly wasn’t shy about telling me how it felt about it. I would get shaky, queasy, and groggy. My body was telling me I needed fuel, and stat. Since I was going to be forcing myself into a state of fasting, I was thinking this feeling was going to be more prevalent, at least until I adjusted to it. However, I didn’t experience it once. Sipping the bullet proof coffee has helped curb this feeling, telling my body that we have what we need, no need to panic!

Let me know what you think of this style of eating! Are you working on any 2018 goals that we can help with?! And as always, until next time!
